Things are about to get even more exciting. In 2016, we merged with Valipat SA. The result is the need for tighter integration of software platforms and development of new and improved online services for a wider range of clients.

That’s where you come in.

THE ROLE

Envoy have an immediate requirement for a talented, capable and enthusiastic software engineer to join our expanding and highly skilled in-house development team.

Based in our Glasgow city centre office, you will be directly involved in maintaining and supporting our web based platform for multinational B2B clients.

Working in a team of like-minded and disciplined developers, you will also be contributing to software development and new projects and as such need to be comfortable with the full software development life-cycle and keen to take ownership of projects. You will liaise with and work alongside our Operations, Customer Care and Finance teams to identify areas for continuous improvement.

This role will put your full stack development skills to the test, but you won’t be in it alone. You’ll have the support of a talented, tight-knit development team and an international network of colleagues. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You will need to be an experienced PHP developer comfortable in a fast-paced environment. It’s also essential that you communicate well and follow best practices for building stable and secure web based applications.

We expect candidates to have experience with most of the following and the ability to quickly and effectively fill any gaps in their knowledge where required:

  • In-depth knowledge of modern PHP, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and MySQL
  • Working knowledge of front end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript)
  • Experience with distributed version control systems (Git and Git workflows)
  • Experience integrating Web services, API and 3rd party applications
  • An understanding of common software design patterns and SOLID design principles
  • Experience using common Linux tools - GNU coreutils, nginx, Bash
  • Exposure to Docker
  • Ability to explain technical issues to a nontechnical audience
  • Can-do attitude and the ability to work to a high standard under pressure
  • The ability to work well in a small team, both learning from and passing on knowledge to team mates

Additionally, the ideal candidate will exhibit a selection of the following qualities / skills:

  • A degree in a computer science, engineering, technology or mathematics
  • Able to provide input and implement improvements in the development life cycle
  • Extensive experience of PHP MVC frameworks such as Symfony, Zend, Laravel etc
  • Experience of or a desire to increase skills by learning Ruby on Rails
  • Willing to work to test or behaviour driven development principles
  • Good working knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery
  • Keen to embrace Agile methodologies
  • A passion for all things tech
  • A structured approach to problem solving
  • Able to communicate effectively and explaining the rationale behind decisions
  • Able to develop solutions that are robust, reliable and deliver real business value
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Comfortable learning new technologies, languages, tools, processes and skills
  • An interest in legal principles associated with intellectual property rights
  • Good at ping-pong*
